A toilet and shower at your own tent. Anyone who has queued at 8 a.m. knows why this is near the top of the list.

For when the forecast turns. A tight tent, dry ground, rain gear — so three wet days don't cost you the whole weekend.

No phone means no ticket and no meeting point. Power bank, solar and music for the tent — capacity picked to stay within most site limits.

For four or more travelling together. One person orders, everyone splits the cost — cart, tent and seating for your shared pitch.

The evening before the first band. Cups, games and light for the circle outside your tent — no glass, which is banned almost everywhere.

For arriving by train or bus. Light and small enough to carry from the station to the campsite in a single trip.

Four days of cooking instead of buying. Stove, pot and dishes for your pitch — it pays off from day two.

For the photos and the entrance. Glasses, colour and glow — small things that cost little and show a lot.

You already have the tent and sleeping bag. This is what makes the second time noticeably better than the first.

One tent, two mats, two sleeping bags. For couples and regular tent partners splitting the cost.

At night a thousand tents look alike. Lamps and markers so you can spot yours from a distance.

For when 30 °C is forecast. Shade, air and enough to drink — a tent is hottest around midday.
